Keeping your data safe is no small task, but it can start that way. Password length and complexity are the most overlooked and exploited security features.  Everybody today needs password authentication for at least 20 different systems, and the most common tendency is to choose passwords that are easy to remember or have some personal meaning.  Using the same password for many different systems is a recipe for disaster, and compromising that single password could lead to security breaches in many other systems. When choosing a password, pick passphrases at least 11 characters long, incorporating a combination of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters, while avoiding using things like your first or last name in those passwords. On average, it takes a hacker 2 seconds to crack an 11-character password that uses only numbers, while it would take the same hacker 400 years to crack an 11-character password that uses numbers, upper and lower case letters, and special characters.
